One of the most common questions we get here at Downtown Denver Sleep Solutions is, “Can I use my insurance to pay for my sleep apnea therapy?” Fortunately, the answer is “Yes,” but a bit of an explanation is needed.
Even though oral appliance therapy is provided by Dr. Radz or Dr. Thompson, a dentist, dental insurance cannot be used to pay for an oral sleep appliance. However, medical insurance can! We know this is confusing, so we’re happy to clear this up on the page below. What’s important to know is that we do accept medical insurance, and we’re in-network with many popular providers as well, which can make oral appliance therapy much more affordable for our patients. Read on to learn more, but if you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to give our team a call.
Using Medical Insurance to Pay for Oral Appliance Therapy
So why can’t a patient use their dental insurance to pay for a sleep oral appliance?
It’s because the appliance is intended to treat a medical condition, sleep apnea, and not a dental one. This is why medical insurance provides coverage and dental insurance does not, even though the appliance itself is being provided by a dentist. Complicated? Yes! Thankfully, our team is here to make things nice and simple so that saving on your care is as straightforward as possible.
How to Use Your Medical Insurance with Us
If you’re considering coming to see us for sleep apnea therapy, we highly recommend calling ahead so we can verify your medical insurance coverage ahead of your first appointment. That way, you’ll have access to your benefits without delay. Our team is very familiar with many different plans, so once you give us your membership information, we’ll be able to take care of the rest.
If it turns out that you do indeed need a sleep oral appliance, we’ll handle the entire insurance claim process for you, and we’ll give you an estimate of what you’ll be expected to pay out of pocket. We try to make our estimates as accurate as possible, but sometimes, insurance companies don’t provide concrete numbers until after a claim has been processed, so don’t be surprised if the final amount you pay ends up being slightly different than our estimate. Whatever the case may be, your insurance should make it much, much easier to fit your appliance into your budget.
We Are In-Network with the Following Medical Insurance Providers…
- Blue Cross/Blue Shield & Anthem
If you don’t see your provider on this list, go ahead and give us a call—we may still be able to use your plan to help cover your treatment!
